Firewall No Root: App Firewall vs AdGuard: Content Blocker Usage & Stats

Firewall No Root is a no-root app firewall for Android (mobile firewall). Decide per app whether internet access is allowed or blocked. Control Wi-Fi and mobile data separately, reduce background connections and keep more of your activity private — with no ads. You don’t need to root your phone. That means you keep your device in a standard state while still getting a practical way to manage app connections and cut down unnecessary background traffic. Control internet access per app • Allow or block connections for each installed app (no root required) • Separate rules for Wi-Fi and mobile data (use “Wi-Fi only” for heavy apps) • Reduce background traffic to save mobile data and help improve battery life • Optional notifications when an app tries to go online for the first time • Keep kids’ games or learning apps offline when they don’t need internet • Review apps that connect unusually often and adjust permissions quickly • Optional: view system apps separately and fine-tune their access • Advanced: custom rules for IP addresses, host names and domains • Advanced: regularly updated filter/host lists and an optional DNS changer Filter lists can help you limit known tracking domains without manually maintaining every address. The DNS changer lets you switch to alternative DNS providers (often more privacy-friendly) and quickly return to your default DNS if something does not work as expected. Typical examples: • Travel: block mobile data for update-hungry apps, keep navigation and messaging online • Home: allow streaming only on Wi-Fi, prevent background usage on mobile data • Work & focus: keep social apps offline during certain periods • Family device: decide which apps for children can access the internet • Privacy habits: keep rarely used apps offline unless you actively open them The interface stays simple: open the app list, toggle access, done. You can quickly search for an app, set it to “Wi-Fi only”, or keep it offline by default. This makes the firewall useful for beginners and parents, but also flexible enough for power users. Built for everyday privacy: fewer background connections and clearer control — no scare tactics. How it works (local filtering via VpnService) Firewall No Root uses Android’s official VpnService API to filter network traffic locally on your device. The app creates a local connection to itself, routes traffic through the firewall and then decides whether to allow or block it. Filtering happens on-device; traffic is not tunnelled to a remote VPN server. Because VpnService is used, Android may show a “VPN” indicator while the firewall is active — this is expected for local filtering. This app is not a traditional VPN service; it uses VpnService for on-device filtering and permission control. Privacy & data safety Developed in Germany with a strong focus on privacy and transparency. For details about data handling, please review the Google Play Data safety section. Core firewall features are free and ad-free. An optional in-app purchase unlocks additional convenience features and supports ongoing development. Only one app can use Android’s VpnService at a time. If another VPN or firewall app is active, you’ll need to choose which one to use. Blocking connectivity can affect app functions (for example, messengers need internet access to receive messages; streaming apps need internet to play). If something stops working, simply allow the app again or change the rule to Wi-Fi only. Firewall No Root does not replace operating system security updates and cannot guarantee protection against every threat, but it can help you reduce unnecessary background connections and regain control of app internet access.
