Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi, a composer of time-transcending brilliance and encyclopedic erudition, is said to have lived approximately between 1700-1765. The vastness of his multi-dimensional creations is only matched by the depth of his knowledge and exemplary attitude. He was a consummate master of melody, form, rhythm, meter, poetry, dance, drama, epics, mythology, cultural history and geography who was at equal ease in Sanskrit as well as Tamil.
In his wonderful treatise, Sangita Ratnakara Sarangadeva (1210-1247) lists about 30 qualities that composers must possess. These include not only command over melody, rhythm, meter, rhyme but also a sense of drama, poetry, awareness of characters, situation and numerous other aspects. Venkata Kavi is a rare phenomenon in Indian music who ticks most of these boxes.
From a global perspective, Venkata Kavi contributed as much to the development in the East as his contemporaries Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91) did to the developments in the West.
The enchanting magic his creations weave has endeared him to thousands of musicians, music lovers and students alike and awed scholars over the years. However, it would take decades of study by specialists in various fields to create a comprehensive understanding of his contributions.

Dr. Chitra Ramakrishnan is a Carnatic vocalist and Bharatnatyam dancer by profession . She had great passion for music and dance from a very young age. Born in a traditional south indian family with a very rich cultural heritage, she had her initial training from Shri. Chalapuram Pappa, a contemporary of Shri. Tiger Rangachari. Later, she received training from Shri. Mathur P.Balasubramanian and she is pursuing advanced training under the tutelage of the great musical genius and renowned musicologist, prof. Dr.T.V.Gopalakrishnan.
She has won several accolades and awards, given concerts in the Middle East,U.S., and the U.K. She is the artistic director of Shruthi UK, an art organisation to promote and revive Indian music and dance in the U.K.
Beside her cultural accomplishments, she holds a double post graduate degree in Management and is a doctorate in Management studies.
