The Cheese Trails vs Swiss Parks App Usage & Stats
The free Cheese Trails app guides hikers along the historic cheese trade routes through the Vaud and Fribourg Pre-Alps and helps them make the most of their visit to the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park.
There are two hiking trails covered by the app: the Gruyère AOP trail and the L’Etivaz AOP trail. Both follow the old trade routes used in the 17th and 18th centuries to transport cheese over the Col de Jaman mountain pass. They run from Les Avants to Charmey, L’Etivaz or Rougemont, and together have a total of 21 stages, with walking times ranging from 1 to 4 hours. All are accessible by public transport.
The mobile app offers a wealth of information on the natural and cultural heritage of the Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park, including the many fascinating living traditions that are still practised today. It also features helpful suggestions on where to stay, eat, and source local products and specialities.
There is also a great choice of games and puzzles, which inject a little extra fun to the hike and are an easy and enjoyable way to explore the history and traditions of La Gruyère and the Pays-d’Enhaut. Whether it is deciphering the carvings on the chalets in the village of Rougemont, finding out why mountain pastures are stone-free, taking on selfie challenges, or tracking down a mysterious open-roofed chapel, there is a fun mission to suit all tastes.
