Teresa Parod Murals vs Atlås Usage & Stats

Teresa Parod Murals is a companion app to the artist’s public works. Using Augmented Reality, it activates a layered spatial audio-visual experience around selected murals. This edition features 11 murals—mostly in Evanston, Illinois, and one in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nine Evanston murals line the alley at 2300 Thayer Street, where their 3D scenes interconnect to form a listener- and viewer-driven immersive environment. Characters from different murals wander the alley, and the soundscape shifts as you move. Stand close to hear a mural’s inner details, or step back to feel how its voices blend naturally with others. To begin, simply point your phone at any participating mural. An on-screen banner includes an About… link to the project website and can be toggled on or off by touch—useful when capturing clear screenshots of your view. The work offers an interactive, listener-directed form of spatial mixing that unites sound, movement, and public space. It is like an audio walk fused directly with the murals themselves. Scenes draw on field recordings made in Bali, New Orleans, and Chicago, woven with instrumental layers and voices in ten languages. Animated 3D models of birds, bats, dogs, elephants, rabbits, and celestial forms appear among the murals, joined by subtle video textures and custom shaders that bring the paintings to life. Visitors familiar with Teresa’s colorful murals—often featured in Chicago-area art guides—will discover a new way to explore them: interactively, through sound and motion that inhabit the shared space of the alley. Teresa Parod creates luminous murals and oil paintings that celebrate life through color, light, and mythic imagery. She has completed more than a hundred public works of art across the U.S., Cuba, Bali, Nepal, and Istanbul, collaborating with mosaicist José Fuster in Cuba. Her art often traces the hero’s journey—seeking, growing, returning home transformed. In her murals she aims to uplift, placing art in unexpected spaces; in her paintings she reveals a fuller emotional range. Teresa lives and teaches in Evanston, Illinois. @teresaparod Bill Parod is a composer, improvising violinist, and spatial-media artist exploring the temporal and spatial behavior of natural systems. He creates behavioral ecologies from field recordings, harmonic expressions of natural phenomena, and ensembles of instruments that act like living species. His works have appeared at IRCAM (Paris), the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (Chicago), Burning Man, and other venues, and are available as mobile apps. Parod’s “behavior composition” treats sound as a living drama within immersive spatial worlds. @billparod

Atlas is an anti game environment that generates music among a conversational cognitive space. As part of its existence, there are automatically generated tasks that are solved by machine intelligence without the need of human input. It also asks questions ad infinitum: questions that are dealing with presence, human cognition and imagination, corporate driven automatisms, advanced listening practices, silence.
