Still Life vs WAVA - AR Usage & Stats
Still Life is an interactive augmented reality App I designed to keep alive the ancient and fervid European still life art-practice. Still Life intersects the contemporary medium of augmented technology with traditional and historical art forms, further diluting the physical into a liminal sphere.
Infect, the AR artwork speculates on landscapes, paintings, and objects by letting the audience recreating a ‘diffuse’ augmented reality object-oriented space formed by diverse random objects. Through photogrammetry technique, Still Life overlays objects and landscapes to generate a saturated panorama, challenging physical places to render it vibrant and participatory. Through custom game play using fingers, users discover and interact (rotating, translating, scaling) with 33 domestic items, such as digitised kettles, vases and sugar canisters, etc.
These augmented reality items aim to animate the exhibition space (indoor/outdoor), designing a dreamlike scenario where the ontology of vision makes the invisible vivacious.
Usage:
Tap on the screen where you see the gold density cloud particle system to place 3D objects over the space. Tap again on the object you want to interact with. And scale (gesture: pinch thumb-index) Translate XYZ (gesture: finger back and forth over the screen) and rotate (gesture: finger left and right over the screen). Back button to reset the whole AR session.

Today, every public space is simultaneously an augmented space. Virtual data layering expands the physical space and opens new realms of possibilities. We wish to make this in-between space accessible for artistic interventions by anchoring virtual artworks to specific locations, channelling the ephemeral presence of an interruption or a glitch.
Fostering site-specificity and thinking with curatorial dispositions, WAVA aspires to open up the augmented layer to the public and artists alike, serving as a nomadic framework for virtual and physical communal gatherings across different cities and places.
