Same & Different All Year Long vs SLP Minimal Pairs Lite Usage & Stats
This app was developed by an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist to promote understanding and use of the early developing concepts, “same” and “different.” It is appropriate for children who are developing language normally and those who are language delayed. As the app is in Spanish as well as English, it is suitable for those who may be learning English as a second language. The app has 3 direction-following tasks which are presented within 1 of 18 possible seasonal/occasional contexts, thus making it semantically relevant all year long.
The seasonal/occasional contexts include:
Aquarium visit
Autumn
Back to School
Birthday
Chinese New Year
Christmas
Cinco de Mayo
Earth Day
Farm Visit
Halloween
Hanukah
Spring/Easter
St. Patrick’s Day
Summer
Thanksgiving
Valentine’s Day
Winter
Zoo Visit
There are 3 activities to choose from. These include:
CHOOSE THE ONES THAT ARE THE SAME
In this activity, the user taps the speaker icon to hear “Which ones are the same?” The user then chooses 2 out of 3 pictured items or 3 out of 4 pictured items (depending on chosen game format) that are the same. A percentage correct is displayed at the end of 10 trials.
CHOOSE THE ONES THAT ARE DIFFERENT
In this activity, the user taps the speaker icon to hear “Which ones are different?” The user then chooses 1 out of 3 pictured items or 1 out of 4 pictured items (depending on chosen game format) that is different. A percentage correct is displayed at the end of 10 trials.
CHOOSE SAME AND DIFFERENT
This is the most difficult level, as “same” directives and “different” directives are presented randomly within the space of the single activity. Here, the user must really listen! Upon tapping the speaker icon, the user may hear “Which one is different?” or he/she may hear “Which ones are the same?” The user will then choose the correct response from 3 or 4 pictured items (depending on chosen game format). A percentage correct is displayed at the end of 10 trials.

SLP TechTools Minimal Pairs is a speech therapy app developed by speech-language pathologists to target phonological disorders in children, pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade.
NOTE: The application provides full functionality for Cluster Reduction - one of the eight processes - allowing you to fully test out the application and decide to purchase SLP Minimal Pairs Full, also available on the App Store.
The app includes fun and engaging pictures of 367 words to facilitate discrimination and accurate production of speech sounds. It covers 8 commonly used phonological processes: Final Consonant Deletion, Fronting, Cluster Reduction, Prevocalic Voicing Gliding, Stopping, Depalatalization, Deaffrication and Gliding.
As an In App Purchase, users can build custom processes with photos from their iPad Camera, Photo Library or Dropbox Account. Spoken word samples are recorded from the iPad.
Three practice formats include: auditory discrimination, contrast drill, and repetition drill. Progress monitoring in client history tracks improvement and allows users to observe improvement over multiple sessions.
The app gives the therapist maximum control of each session. All buttons are oriented near the therapist and away from the child. The pictures will not change nor will the voiced word repeat unless the therapist pushes the button.
