The top 15 sneak peek might have curbed curiosity temporarily, but if you’re anything like us, we want to know “why” these companies are on top. Using Similarweb Sales Intelligence tells us precisely that.
Let’s see it in action with a deep dive into the top 5 ecommerce companies in the US in June 2024:
1. Amazon.com
With close to 24 million ecommerce businesses to shop at, the consistent top choice of consumers is no surprise; it’s Amazon. What might be surprising is that amazon.com’s year-over-year (YoY) is down 2.63%, and month-over-month (MoM) visits are down 0.74%.
New ecommerce competitors emerge on the scene every day, but 1.743B total visits in June point to Amazon’s strong stay power. Amazon.com’s largest traffic source was direct, with 1B visits, followed by organic search, with 417.1M visits.
Although amazon.com is seeing a dip in website visits, it’s also seeing positive changes to engagement metrics — specifically, Bounce Rates have improved by 0.28% on desktop.
As mentioned, Direct and Organic Search led the charge in driving traffic to Amazon. So, what was the world looking for that led them to the site? Short answer: everything and anything. Slightly longer answer: these are the 15 most popular organic non-branded keywords for June…

Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Kindle-related search terms made up 60% of the top 15. Also in the top 15 is an Amazon original (and exclusive) series, The Boys. We also see Seller Central (the portal sellers can enter to get into their Amazon accounts) made it to the top 15, and Freevee (an Amazon TV channel). 5 out of 15 top organic, non-branded keywords for amazon.com saw positive MoM change — The Boys specifically saw an impressive 754.73% MoM increase.
2. Ebay.com
eBay is one of the first ecomemerce companies to create and market an online business connecting buyers and sellers of goods and services. And eBay has also become another household name. Like its predecessor, eBay.com’s June traffic decreased from 546M to 539M total visits YoY (1.34%).
Even though ebay.com’s MoM total visits were down -2.06%, there’s been an uptick in June for Pages Per Visit on desktop (0.37%) and mobile web (0.19%).
Jumping over to the channels that drove the most traffic, direct visits brought in the most (258.8M), followed by organic search (205M), and then paid search (28.4M). These three channels contributed 48.05%, 38.05%, and 5.27%, respectively, to the total traffic.
What were people really searching for on eBay? The short answer: the unexpected. Curious shoppers turned to eBay with some truly unique queries. To give you a glimpse into the minds of eBay users, here are the platform’s 15 most popular non-branded organic search terms from June.

Interstingly, the keywords that had the highest MoM change in searches were myebay with 81.86%, ols1-1c with 80.04%, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Deluxe Playset with 74.40%.
3. Walmart.com
The third spot goes to walmart.com, which had 373.9M visits in June, a decrease of 0.27 MoM. Let’s see what’s happening with Walmart’s Traffic & Engagement metrics.
Walmart has a mix of ups and downs. One of the positive metrics walmart.com experienced was the visit duration. In June, both desktop and mobile saw increases — 1.18% and 0.64%. There was also a nice uptick in pages per visit, again on both desktop (2.14%) and mobile web (0.64%).
The largest traffic source for walmart.com was organic search, with 149.3M visits, followed by direct search, with 137.5M visits. With such high organic search traffic, let’s see what keywords users were searching for.
Calling all bargain hunters? We peeked behind the curtain at Walmart’s search data for June and it seems that US consumers came to walmart.com with a mission (aka high-intent searches), as evidenced by these top 15 non-branded organic keywords. The biggest theme emerging from the top organic non-branded keyword is a search for jobs or sam’s clubs careers. In these top 15 keywords, ‘jobs near me’ saw the largest MoM change, with an impressive spike of 165.74%.
4. Etsy.com
Want to find more unique products and support small businesses? Join the millions of consumers shopping at etsy.com. June brought in 230.6M monthly visits to this top retailer, which is down 2.85% MoM and 88.47% YoY.
Regarding Etsy’s Pages Per Visit metric, we’re seeing a slight increase on desktop of 0.16% but a decrease on mobile of 2.86% MoM.
The largest traffic source for etsy.com in June was direct, with 88.5M, then organic search, with 85M, followed by paid search at 27.9M. Social media, though, also played a significant part with 21.5M visits.

Two themes emerging from the top organic, non-branded keywords are searches for fantasy art and jewelry. In this set of Ety’s top 15 keywords, “anniversary gifts” saw the largest MoM change with a 303.96% increase.
5. Homedepot.com
The last spot in our top five is Home Depot, where shoppers can get supplies for their handiwork projects. In June, homedepot.com had 199.3M total visits, a MoM decrease of 5.05% and a YoY decrease of 6.04%.
The largest traffic channel from Home Depot was organic search, with 95.9M visits, followed by direct search, at 61.7M, and then paid search, at 23.4M visits. Social media brought in 9.8M visits.

A deeper dive into the top 5 fastest-growing ecommerce companies in the United States
Here’s what we found out about these winners using Similarweb Sales Intelligence:
1. Grasscity.com
The number one spot for the fastest-growing ecommerce site goes to grasscity.com. In June, Grass City saw a 226.82% MoM increase and 53.02% YoY growth, totaling 1.049M visitors.
Moving to the Traffic & Engagement overview, grasscity.com’s visit duration saw a nice bump in June – desktop had a 39.21% increase while mobile web was up by 55.78%. The ecommerce site saw an increase in pages per visit on mobile devices of 5.75% and page views on desktop of 196.27% and mobile of 218.33%.
When it comes to channels, the ones that brought in the most visitors are organic search (474.1K), direct (417.9K), referrals (85.4K), and social (39.7K). And out of the 1M visitors, 758.3K, more than 75%, came from mobile!
With such high organic search traffic, let’s take a look at the top 15 organic non-branded keywords users were searching for:

The June runner-up spot goes to Maelys Cosmetics. The online retailer sells creams, masks, and other beauty skin care products. This month, maelyscosmetics.com saw a MoM growth of 164.49% (1.471M) and a YoY growth of 23.35%.
When checking out Maelys Cosmetics’ Traffic & Engagement metrics, we see positive MoM growth on all fronts. Specifically, we see a nice increase in their bounce rate of 21.77% on desktop devices.
When it comes to traffic channels, maelyscosmetics.com’s biggest driver is social media, with 483.1K, followed by paid search, with 446.7K, and then direct, with 340.5 K. This is our first brand with the largest traffic coming in from social media.
The top five paid non-branded search terms that drove traffic to Maelys Cosmetics site were:

Regarding theanimalrescuesite.com’s bounce rate metric, we see an improvement on desktop (27.31%) and mobile web (14.89%). There are also upward trends for visit duration, pages per visit, and page views.
As we move over to the Marketing Channels for The Animal Rescue Site, the channels that brought in the most traffic were:

Our next spot for the fastest-growing ecommerce site goes to bismanonline.com. In June, the site hit 1.019M total visitors, a 107.8% increase MoM and 11.23% increase YoY. Bisman Online is also growing faster than the industry average by -0.78%.
When we examined bismanonline.com’s traffic and engagement, we found that page views had been trending upward in June. Desktop increased by 25.13%, and mobile increased by 63.41%. There was also a slight increase in the bounce rate on mobile devices (29.87%).
Moving onto the channels that drove the most traffic to Bisman Online, we see that organic led the traffic (631.5K), then direct (329.5K), followed by social (41.6K). We also noticed that out of 1M visitors, 852.2K came from mobile devices, regardless of which channel they came from.
Hopping over to the organic non-branded keywords, the top 15 keywords that brought people to the site are:

In this set of Bisman Online’s 15 keywords, “bismanonline” saw the largest MoM change, with a +143.24% search increase, and the runner-up was a tie between ‘honda ruckus for sale in nd’ and ‘bisman honda ruckus in north dakota’ with 93.79%.
5. Rtcoutdoors.com
The last spot on this list is rtcoutdoors.com. In June, Rtc Outdoors had 2.040M total visitors, an 82.33% MoM increase and a 31.68% YoY increase.
Analyzing their Traffic & Engagement, we noticed the visit duration decreased on desktop by 3.74% but increased on mobile by 0.05%. There were similar trends (increases and decreases) for both bounce rate and page views. The bounce rate on desktop improved by 15.75% but declined on mobile by 7.13%. And for page views, desktop decreased by 10.74%, but mobile web improved by 87.92%.
On to Rtc Outdoors’s Marketing Channels. Unlike the other fastest-growing sites, paid search brought in the most traffic (835.6K), followed by direct (699.9K), and then organic search (247.5K).
When we checked the organic non-branded keywords rtcoutdoors.com was working with, these were the top 15:
