Now let’s take a deeper dive into the top 5 — which you’ve definitely heard of — using Similarweb Sales Intelligence.

A deeper dive into the top 5 tech companies, by monthly visits

1) Amazon

It’s no surprise that Amazon is the first technology company on this list since it’s also one the top ecommerce companies in the US, UK, and worldwide

With the giant tech company operating in over 50 countries, there’s bound to be a lot of data that we can examine.

So, let’s jump right in!

amazon website performance

For starters, Amazon’s total visits in November were 2.818B visitors, which happens to be 4.13% higher than the last month.

Although Amazon is a global company, it’s ranked #3 in the US, which makes sense given that the site has an 86.10% traffic share from there.

Given the company’s well-known status, let’s quickly examine the market channel metrics.

amazon marketing channels

No surprise here — direct brought in 58.51% of traffic over the last six months. But even though Amazon is so well known, would you ever think the tech giant would still work on the SEO strategy or paid search efforts?

Surprisingly, they still do because no matter how big you get, you can always do more. Let’s take a closer look at Amazon’s SEO strategy.

What peaked our interest in this list of top 15 keywords that brought in visitors were “pete hegseth,” “elon musk,” and “motherless.” Apparently, consumers are on the hunt for their next read with their monthly book clubs.

As we dug deeper, we saw that Pete Hegseth published a new book, “Battle of the American Mind,” and consumers have been flocking to Amazon to get their own copy. With 4.8 stars, it seems like people are really loving it. Have you ordered your copy yet?

And to close up our insights with Amazon, here are a few of the website technologies the website uses:

  • Zoom Video Conferencing: Live Chat
  • Art19: Audio Video Media
  • Demdex: Advertising
  • Adobe Analytics: Conversion & Analytics

2) Baidu

The second place spot goes to Baidu, a Chinese multinational technology company that specializes in internet-related products, and artificial intelligence.

Like Google, Baidu offers similar features and services but focuses only on China. The website controls most of the search market.

Here’s a quick overview of baidu.com’s overall performance from November:

Baidu website performance

We quickly looked at baidu.com’s overall performance for November and saw the website had 2.35 billion total visit, and an almost even device distribution: desktop brought in 47.43,% and mobile brought in 52.57%. The distribution isn’t surprising, as people rely on mobile devices for nearly everything these days. In this case, users might be accessing Baidu through its app instead of a web browser, which could explain why the percentage of mobile usage isn’t higher.

Baidu marketing channels

Breaking down the channels, this is what we’ve picked up on:

  1. Direct beats all the other Marketing Channels in bringing users to the website; no surprise there
  2. Organic search brings in a decent amount of traffic
  3. Baidu is generating referral traffic

We did some more digging into the referral traffic since it piqued our interest, and here’s what we found out…

baidu referral traffic

The website that drove the most traffic to Baidu was hao123.com, which is a competitor. We found this interesting, so we did some more research and found out that Baidu actually purchased hao123 in 1999 — what a strategic move!

3) Netflix

Next up on our list is a streaming service that we’re sure you’ve heard of (regardless if you’ve used it or not) — Netflix.

Whether you use it on your laptop, TV, phone, or even a friend or family member’s account (we won’t tell on you 😉), Netflix is a big part of our lives.

On that note, check out the website’s total visits for November. They had 1.93 billion visitors, which also happens to be a 6.04% increase compared to last month. But unlike the other websites, 87% of visits came from desktop, suggestiong that desktop is more comfortable for visitors.

Netflix website performance

As we continue down the list, direct traffic continues to drive more visitors to these massive tech websites, which isn’t surprising. What was a bit surprising was although Organic Search brought 19% of traffic we wanted to see how Netflix compared to their competitors. And we found out that PrimeVideo actually had more visitors coming through organic search (26%), a little competition never hurt.

But, nonetheless, Netflix’s organic search is still quite impressive.

Netflix marketing channels

As we analyzed Netflix’s organic non-branded keywords, these are the top 15 that drove visitors to the site:

Netflix organic non branded keywords

There’s a lot going on in this short list, but what piqued our interest was “NFL,” which has a search volume of 107.2 million, holy guacamole! We saw that as viewers were gearing up to watch the Thanksgiving game, news broke out that Netflix will host the Christmas NFL games. But there are other interesting keywords in this list.

Two other phrases that got millions of searches were “mike tyson” and “mike tyson.vs jake paul.” If you live under a rock and don’t know what we’re talking about, we’ll explain. Netflix live-streamed a boxing match between Iron Mike (Mike Tyson) and El Gallo (Jake Paul). If you had the chance to watch it, did it end how you expected?

4) Microsoft

We’re almost at the end of our list, but for now, the website that’s sitting in fourth place is none other than — Microsoft!

In just November, the giant had 1.27 billion total visits, and even though that’s a 4.44% decline from the last month, it’s still a crazy amount of visits for just one website.

Microsoft website performance

Check out this really cool insight that was generated by Similarweb Sales Intelligence:

The average monthly traffic to microsoft.com is approximately 1.22B visits. Traffic increased from 1.13B in June 2024 to 1.33B in October 2024, a growth of 17.8%. This growth was primarily driven by the Direct and Organic Search channels, which consistently contributed the majority of traffic each month. However, there was a slight decrease in November 2024 to 1.27B visits, possibly due to seasonal factors.

Microsoft traffic and engagement

Obviously, we wanted to see what was going on with the Marketing Channels. This is what we found. Direct accounted for 55% of the site’s total visits. However, organic search also brought in 36% of its traffic, which is the highest on this list so far. Referrals also brought in almost 7%, which is a decent amount.

Microsoft marketing channels

Let’s take a quick look at the top 15 non branded keywords that brought users to microsoft.com…

Here’s what we noticed: ‘Bing,’ which has a whopping 11.3 million average searches, drove people to Microsoft. But funny enough, users used Google, a search engine, to find another search engine.

5) Samsung

Last but not least is Samsung, the South Korean multinational major appliance and consumer electronics corporation.

In November, Samsung secured 869.2 million total visits. Even though that’s the lowest figure on this current list, it’s still a crazy high number. Interestingly, Samsung has the highest mobile distribution at 94%!

Samsung website performance

We noticed that the traffic over time has been declining over the last few months, but after checking the Visit Duration, we saw that it’s starting to trend upwards which can be connected to the holiday season.

It’ll be interesting to see where Samsung will be in a month or two and if the Visit Duration continues to trend upwards. 🤔

Samsung engagement over time

Seeing as Samsung is an ecommerce company, it’s no surprise the website’s biggest traffic driver was Organic Search which brought in 45% of overall searches.
