What if you could achieve your goals and enjoy small rewards along the way? Pointbook is a self-challenge app designed to help you set personal goals and achieve them step-by-step. It was created by a developer (that's me!) who was admittedly lazy and wanted to make a real change starting this year. The concept behind Pointbook is simple: Set goals or daily habits you want to maintain, and each time you accomplish one, you earn points according to the value you've assigned. Here’s how I, as the developer, personally use it: Reach a weight of 75 kg (500,000 points) Reduce body fat to 15% (500,000 points) Morning workout at the gym for at least 45 minutes (5,000 points) Arrive at work before 9 AM (5,000 points) Go boxing after work (10,000 points) Eat salad for lunch (5,000 points) Do phone-based English conversation practice before bed (5,000 points) Attend weekend English conversation study group (10,000 points) Attend weekend offline developer study group (20,000 points) So, what do I do with all these accumulated points? Personally, I spend them on drinking (alcohol!). For instance, if I want to buy alcohol worth 100,000 won (~$75), I pay the actual money from my wallet, but I also deduct exactly 100,000 points from Pointbook. In other words, no matter how much money I have, if I don't have enough points in Pointbook, I can't spend any money on alcohol. Thanks to this system, I’ve been consistently exercising, maintaining healthy eating habits, and keeping up a disciplined daily routine—while guiltlessly enjoying one or two big drinking nights per month. Using this approach, I successfully lost 30 kg (66 lbs) in just nine months! : ) I hope you, too, can easily set and achieve your goals or build desired habits using this method! Of course, forming habits isn't easy. Even with this app, it might still be challenging. But if Pointbook helps even just one person, I'll be truly happy.
