With this calculator you will be able to discover the remainder of a division, let's talk a little about of what the remainder of a division is.
While division is a process to achieve equal groups, not all numbers are evenly divisible.
Remainder or remainder in the division
It is called remainder the number that remains after having divided a non-divisible number.
Suppose you want to distribute 38 envelopes evenly among 12 people, how many envelopes correspond to each person?
The corresponding operation is: 38/12 =?
Step 1:
To solve this division we are going to look for a number that multiplied by 12 is close to or equal to the number 38.
Step 2:
The closest number is 3, since 12 x 3 = 36, and it is quite close to 38.
Step 3:
Now we look for the difference between the numbers, that is 38 - 36 = 2.
Step 4:
This difference is the residue or remainder, in this case, we could say that the 38 envelopes that we are going to distribute among 12 people, each one will receive 3 and there will be 2 left over.
