PortalLearning vs Learn Malayalam Script! Usage & Stats
Ugh, another language learning app that doesn’t work as it claims?
Hear us out.
We don’t think it’s possible to learn a language from scratch using just a mobile app. Especially not with the kind that makes you match images and do boring, repetitive drills. Language learning is a journey that needs to be supported by actually speaking to other humans and engaging with content in that language.
And we don’t claim to take you from 0 to mastery in an Indian language through just our app. However, we do promise you that it is the most powerful “support” out there that can “help” you understand a new Indian language (right now, we have Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu).
How so?
*Interactive stories: No more mindless drills and rote learning of words and their meanings! Portal uses stories where you pick up the language by choosing the correct option by judging from the context of the story.
*Multiple topics: To make things more engaging, you can start learning by choosing stories from topics that interest you. We’re constantly working to add new stories and topics.
* 9 Indian languages: To get started, we have Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. But we’ll also be adding more languages in the future.
*Earn rewards: Whenever you complete a new story, you will get rewarded in Gems. In the future, you will get to redeem those gems.

Malayalam is a Dravidian language spoken in southern India, primarily in the state of Kerala. It has an alphasyllabary script, typical of languages of India. The language had roughly 35 million native speakers by 2011. This app is designed to help you become comfortable with recognizing more and more complex letter forms until you can read and construct full-words. Start first by studying the vowels, practicing writing them down and then trying the quiz. Then try the quiz with the diacritics. Then, move on to consonants. This may take more time, as there are many consonants. Then, try the quiz with the consonant-vowel ligatures. Finally, try the quiz with the conjunct consonants. The word scramble game lets you try putting full words together. You can also try the typing game if you have a Malayalam keyboard installed on your phone.
