Other Matter vs CATALYSTS — Somatic Resonance Usage & Stats

Other Matter allows users to access Augmented Reality experiences designed by students of the University of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. As trigger objects an image/ graphic are used, abandoning the conventional QR-code aesthetics. Does architecture always need to be physical? What ways of spatial expression, notation, extension, and new awareness can be achieved and designed through media? And what role could AR play in (re)programming space, especially in exhibition design and design methods? The works explorable through the Other Matter App investigate the possibilities of virtual and augmented space populations through the playful use of digital technologies. Students from various departments looked at different approaches of immaterial architecture in order to develop ephemeral, audio-visual objects, structures, or installations that stand in dialogue and emulate new experiences in relation to an existing architectural context. The app is designed to be used at physical venues, nevertheless you can go to other.matter.2vmd.at to experiment with the samples provided there.

«CATALYSTS – Somatic Resonance» is an augmented reality app of somatic states from the work of Icelandic choreographer Margrét Sara Guðjónsdóttir. The exhibition is a choreography of mixed reality technologies, kinaesthetic algorithms, affects, archival material and live bodies. Download the CATALYSTS app to immerse yourself in the resonant states of the dancers informed by Guðjónsdóttir’s meditative de-conditioning practice «FULL DROP into the Body». States of affective potential arise from awakening latent energies over time, across media and flesh, expanding what dance can be and how bodies can remember. This work is created by an interdisciplinary team of artists and researchers and is an intervention in the tensions and potential of current digital cultures. It participates in ongoing discussions around the expanded choreographies of inter-connectivity of mediated bodies, healing, feminism, notions of energetic citizenship, AI and the pathology of the wider social-political body within our bodies. Visitors to the exhibition carry the states from this choreographic exhibition outwards, like ripples in a collective somatic field.
