Butterfly Guide - Europe vs BWP Usage & Stats

Identify butterflies and common day-flying moths of Western Europe, including all British butterflies. The app covers an area from Ireland in the west, eastwards to Austria, south to Sicily and north to Finland and Sweden. Select just the species from one country, or browse through all the species. The specially written information about each species includes a variety of photos showing males, females, upper and undersides and any variations, plus a distribution map and notes on appearance, habitat, favourite nectar source, distribution and rarity status. More species will be added at regular intervals. As with other Spiny nature guides, extensive record keeping features are included, with iCloud syncing to keep your data safe. Note the location, time and date of the sighting, make notes, view your records on a map or as a list, and download as an Excel file. You can even add your own photos to the app to compliment the images provided and to really make the app your own! The app also includes a photo-based Butterfly Finder to help identify mystery butterflies using a combination of filters including details of appearance, location, altitude and date. Special features: • Includes the most common day-flying moths as well as butterflies • A photo-based 'Butterfly Finder' based on appearance, habitat, location, date and more • Carefully selected photos of males, females, upper and undersides. • Labelled photos of key features • A 'compare images'feature • A 'History' feature to make it easy to go back to the last species you looked at • A European distribution map for every species • iCloud syncing to keep your data safe • A back-up system so you can save your data • Export your list of sightings • You can add your own photos of the butterfly or its habitat

Birds of the Western Palearctic – BWP – is the definitive reference for everyone with a serious interest in birding and ornithology. Fifteen years ago we published all 11 printed volumes on DVD-ROM. Now we have fully overhauled this renowned BWPi for iOS and macOS. We have refreshed the design, breathed new life into the plates, added a comprehensive video library, integrated unique breeding birds content and updated taxonomy with new species and splits. Comprehensive coverage of every species that regularly occurs in the region, with sections on Field Characters, Habitat, Breeding, Distribution, Population, Movements, Social Pattern and Behaviour, Voice, Food, Plumages, Moults, Measurements and Geographical Variation. The app covers every species known to have occurred within the region, and we will be updating the app as new species occur (latest is Horned Puffin!). BWP integrates with Collins Bird Guide app so that you can switch between the two seamlessly. • 1,056 species covered • 5,473 illustrations • 1,066 songs and calls • 916 videos • 643 distribution maps • 10,176 photos of breeding stages • 1,557 line drawings showing behaviour • 288 life cycle diagrams • 2,446 tables • 37,690 references • 5,250,000 words of text! • Species names are translated into 25 languages The distribution and population data have not been updated since BWP was originally published, and some species have changed significantly since then. Compare species is available on iPad only.
