Twinkl Phonics Suite vs PocketPhonics Stories Usage & Stats
Teaching phonics can be a very fun and rewarding process, but have you ever found yourself wanting some engaging activities to boost your teaching?
Enter the Twinkl Phonics Suite app, where you’ll find dozens of engaging phonics activities for children at every stage of their phonics learning journey! This fantastic app has been designed by a team of lead teachers and senior practitioners with extensive experience and expertise in the teaching and delivery of phonics within both UK and International Schools.
Our app is split into five Phases, providing you with a clear and logical path of progression. Each Phase covers a range of phonics activities for helping children gain the core skills needed to become fluent readers and writers via the processes of blending (for reading) and segmenting (for spelling).
Twinkl Phonics Suite features over 80 engaging and varying activities for children typically aged three to seven. These range from phoneme boards, where your child can practise spelling words phonetically, to games such as ‘Buried Treasure’, where they must determine whether words are real or nonsense.
Here’s a handy phase-by-phase breakdown of our Twinkl Phonics Suite app:
Phase 1: Our superb Phase 1 phonics activities are designed to help kids build their phonological awareness skills. These include Describe & Find It, Which Instrument?, Which Animal?, Nursery Rhymes and more.
Phase 2: The next phase features fun activities such as CVC Word Game, Sound Buttons, Full Circle Activity, Word Wall, High Frequency Words, High Frequency Words Spelling, Captions For Reading, and more.
Phase 3: Phase 3 helps pupils learn the remaining letters and some more complex graphemes, with activities including Alphabet Matching Game, Sound Buttons, Full Circle Activity and an Initial, Medial & Final Sounds Matching Game.
Phase 4: Our phase 4 activities are designed to make learning to blend longer words and words with adjacent consonants more fun. You’ll find activities including Sentence Substitution, Yes/No Questions, Real Or Not Real and What's In The Box.
Phase 5: Our phase 5 activities build upon children’s phonics skills, with fun activities like Phoneme Spotter Stories, High Frequency Words, Sentence Substitution, Buried Treasure and Three Right Answers.
Primarily designed to support the structure of the Department for Education Letters & Sounds Scheme, Twinkl Phonics Suite can also be used to reinforce the teaching of other phonics schemes your child may be using at nursery or school.

This award-winning app is the one to get if you are passionate about your child learning to read, and your child is aged between 4 and 6, or older but needs some extra help with reading.
It teaches phonics and handwriting (including joined up). It has a first set of storybooks for them to read, written specifically for children learning to read using the app.
Your child will prefer our books to paper books, because they help them read - if they get stuck, they tap a word to get help sounding it out. You will prefer our books, because the quizzes check they can read the words and understand them.
The books get progressively harder, but kids don’t realise because they are getting better at reading all the time.
Our apps are used in hundreds of American elementary schools. One of only nine education apps awarded the top A+ rating by Balefire Labs.
The app is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Children master these skills:
* writing letters
* recognising 72 letter sounds (e.g. ‘ch’ are the letters that make the initial sound in ‘chat’)
* blending letter sounds together to make words (e.g ‘ch-a-t’)
* hearing a word and selecting its written form (e.g. the app says, “chat”, the child has to select ‘chat’ from a group of words - some of which are similar to chat)
