SLP Minimal Pairs (Full) vs FONEMZ Speak & Read Usage & Stats
SLP TechTools Minimal Pairs is a speech therapy app developed by speech language pathologists to assist SLPs as they target phonological and articulation disorders in children, pre-Kindergarten through 6th grade.
The app includes fun and engaging pictures of 367 words to facilitate discrimination and accurate production of speech sounds. It covers 8 commonly used phonological processes: Final Consonant Deletion, Fronting, Cluster Reduction, Prevocalic Voicing Gliding, Stopping, Depalatalization, Deaffrication and Gliding.
As an In App Purchase, users can build custom processes with photos from their iPad Camera, Photo Library or Dropbox Account. Spoken word samples are recorded from the iPad.
Three practice formats include: auditory discrimination, contrast drill, and repetition drill. Progress monitoring in client history tracks improvement and allows users to observe improvement over multiple speech therapy sessions. Results can be emailed as you wish.
The app gives the therapist maximum control of each session. All buttons are oriented near the therapist and away from the child. The pictures will not change nor will the voiced word repeat unless the speech therapist pushes the button. Voice recording and playback are available for immediate feedback.

FONEMZ® Speak & Read is a fun, interactive way to learn to speak, spell and read!
By using the new FONEMZ app, sounds are first learned individually, then combined in single syllable combinations, moving to words having three sounds. Soon, a student can sound out combinations of sounds to make any word!
Not all people learn well by listening. Some people need visual cues in conjunction with speech sound production in order to identify and remember the sound. FONEMZ uses a different color and a unique shape to represent each of the forty main sounds in Standard American English.
FONEMZ can be used with all ages:
• Toddlers
• Preschoolers
• Elementary Students
• Middle and High School students
• Adults
FONEMZ benefits many populations, including students with:
• Apraxia/dyspraxia
• Dyslexia
• Phonological disorders
• Deaf and hard-of-hearing
• Down syndrome
• Autism spectrum disorder
• Aphasia
• English language learners
• Any individual with speech sound disorders
FONEMZ is an evidence-based, multimodal program for teaching speech sound production, phonological and phonemic awareness, and literacy skills. It is based on the widely accepted concept that learning to pronounce sounds in order to speak is more important than letter identification. Understanding that words are made up of individual sounds is more important than learning the letter names.
The FONZABET®, which is introduced in this app, consists of orthographic letter and letter combinations that are color coded to match the 40 sounds of English, the same as the FONEMZ! This is an easy bridge from learning to say words, to learning to spell and read words.
What makes FONEMZ such a great tool for speaking and reading is that you quickly learn to sound out words in a left-to-right pattern, and then it is an easy step to match the colored letters, using the FONZABET, to the sounds (FONEMZ) that make up the word.
