Long Multiplication vs Big Math Usage & Stats

This universal app is part of a set of idevbooks math apps. Reviewed by Wired.com: "A Set of Excellent iPhone Math Apps for the Older Child”. The Long Multiplication math app can be used to teach and study the long multiplication method. Endorsed by teachers Rita Zeni, Ecole Sandy Hill Elementary, Abbotsford, BC, Canada: "The math apps by Esa Helttula allow students to practice and reinforce the specific computation strategies taught in class, with as much or as little scaffolding as necessary. They also provide individualized feedback to each student, with an immediacy that is not always possible through pencil and paper practice. Being able to adjust the level of difficulty to suit their needs is also very motivating for the students. I am so glad to have come across this great educational tool!" Kelly Tenkely, iPad Curriculum: "The step by step animation and guidance will help students get the column method of multiplication down in no time. The ability to enter their own numbers means that students can input problems from a math curriculum or textbook and work through the step-by-step process with any problem. Your reluctant math students will love this app, it will act as their own personal tutor sitting with them and encouraging them on!" The long multiplication method In arithmetic, long multiplication is the standard procedure suitable for multiplying numbers. The method breaks down a multiplication problem into a series of easier steps. Easy to use The Long Multiplication math app allows the user to solve a long multiplication problem step by step and animates all the steps. In the steps the user will multiply or add. The correct answer will fly to the right place. If the user presses the wrong button the answer will appear above the keyboard but it will not move. Features: - The multiplicand can have up to 5 digits - The multiplier can have up to 4 digits - You can set your own problems - You can have decimals in the numbers - The current operation for each column can be hidden - The operands for the current operation can be highlighted - Five different themes - Native interfaces for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad Other iDevBooks math apps iDevBooks math apps have been reviewed and endorsed by Wired.com, IEAR.org, Edudemic.com, Teachers with Apps, and other respected sites and organizations. Big Math is an iPad app for elementary school children to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of big numbers. It has both portrait and landscape orientation. It has a dolphin theme, and when the child has finished a set of problems, a dolphin sound (whistle, scream, yell or motorbike) is heard. The child starts by picking what he or she wants to work on in the Settings screen of the app. Settings options include: * Entering a name and message for the child who will be using the app. The name and message show up throughout the app. * Entering the options for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division. For addition, the child can add 2 numbers, either 2 digit or 3 digit, or 3 numbers, either 2 digit or 3 digit. For subtraction, the child can subtract either 2 digit or 3 digit numbers. For multiplication, the child can multiply 2 digit or three digit numbers. For division (long division), the child can divide with a 1 digit, 2 digit, or 3 digit divisor. The app allows regrouping, where the child can "carry" in addition, multiplication, and division or "borrow" in subtraction and division. The child can elect to have problem sets timed. Once the settings are set, the child goes to the area he or she wants to practice (Big Add, Big Subtract, Big Multiply, or Big Divide), selects the number of problems to do, and starts doing Big Math! Dolphin sounds are courtesy of Dolphin Encounters in the Bahamas! Try it and enjoy!
