With the decision tree, prescribers will be able to identify one of four clusters of symptoms with which to target treatment. "Clusters" include hyperarousal, emotional dysregulation, hyperactivity/neurocognitive, and cognitive inflexibility. Once the primary cluster with the greatest impact on patient functioning is known, then the algorithm decision tree identifies a first-line and second-line medication to prescribe. An adjunct therapy is also given for each cluster. Using the decision tree will help manage FASD/ND-PAE patients improve daily function and reduce unnecessary and unwanted medication. Four to six weeks after using the decision tree, prescribers can complete a brief survey to help evaluate the effectiveness of this first-ever medication decision tree for FASD/ND-PAE patients.
