Welcome to ‘Explore Cork’, a mobile app designed by Cork County Council to help visitors navigate their way around the many things to see and do in Cork. Nestled in the South West of Ireland between Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way, Cork is Ireland’s largest county. Known as ‘Ireland’s Maritime Haven’, Cork has over 1,000km of coastline and the world’s second largest natural harbour. It has many internationally renowned visitor attractions such as Mizen Head Footbridge, Spike Island, The Jameson Experience, Fota Wildlife Park, the legendary Blarney Castle and Doneraile Court & Park to name but a few. There are 8 islands in West Cork, 7 of which are inhabited and each with their own unique culture and history. With Cork regarded as ‘Food Capital of Ireland’, there is no shortage of food offerings, ranging from budget friendly to Michelin Star, all of which you can explore on the app. Whether you are a local uncovering a hidden gem for the first time, or a visitor looking to immerse yourself in all that Cork has to offer, this app will help you along your way.

This app is designed to make it easy to find wilderness, natural wonders, and historic sites along the Wild Atlantic Way. It is linked to google maps and so you can easily see where you are in relation to sites of interest along the route. If you are interested in puffins breeding, wildflowers of the Burren, sheer cliff faces, fairy bridges or castles, and towers this is the app for you. Natural wonders section includes one of the best Dark sky locations in the world, glowing phosphorescence in shallow bays, wild waterfalls, and natural blow holes. Birds and Beasts section will help you find herds of deer, thousands of wintering wildfowl, and direct you to places to watch basking sharks and whales off the coast. Historic sites include ogham stones, Mesolithic tombs, medieval churches, as well ancient abbeys, and stone circles. The app is organized so that you can search for sites on a map, by county, or by features of interest. Each site is described with photographs and linked to google navigation to take you there.
