SoundScopePhone vs Vedike: Spatial Audio Usage & Stats
RIKEN’s Sound Scope Phone introduces a new way of actively listening to music by enabling you to focus on the part you want to listen to. All you need is an iPhone and earphones or headphones for this active music listening experience using spatial sound and AI.
- Spatial acoustic experience
Put on your earphones or headphones and press the play button on Sound Scope Phone. You will hear performers playing instruments around you. If you hold your iPhone in front of you, you'll see the application tracking your face on the display. By turning your head left and right, you can follow the sound of the performers on their respective sides. Likewise, if you turn around with your iPhone in hand, you will be able to face the performers behind you.
- Active music listening experience
This app provides an active music listening experience by enabling you to focus on the certain performers you want to hear. If you turn to face the performer of your choice, it will sound as if they are directly in front of you. By moving your left or right palm closer or further from your ears, you can adjust the range of the performance that you want to focus on. You can highlight one part or multiple parts such as the horn section and the rhythm section. You can check the direction of the performer and the direction you are facing on the position display.
- Mixing console and boost mode
Press the settings button at the bottom right to open the mixing console. The mixing console enables you to operate the faders to fine-tune the volume of each part. When the boost switch is turned on, the targeted sound will be more amplified. You can lower the boost limit fader to adjust the level.
- Development history
The Music Information Intelligence Team, part of the RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project, is exploring potential new ways of creating and listening to music using AI. When listening to classical music, for example, you may want to hear the first violin a little more clearly, or suppress the sound of the trombone sound, or only hear the flute. Sound Scope Phone is an app that enables you to specify the sections you want to listen to.
The app is available to the public to gauge the overall interest in such a way of listening to music. We ask that users the app who are prompted to fill out a questionnaire to please submit their responses. We plan to add songs in the future. If you are interested in the app and technology, please contact us at the support URL.

Vedike is a ground-breaking application that helps users create spatial audio in minutes and experience it in Augmented Reality.
* INTUITIVE * INTELLIGENT * IMMERSIVE*
With the growing popularity for spatial audio, and many popular platforms supporting spatial audio content, the need for creating spatial audio content has grown. However there is no consumer application that lets one create spatial audio easily or affordably. The Vedike team has created an app that not only makes it easy for creators to create, mix and share spatial audio content, but with AR, the app provides an immersive way to experience spatial audio.
* INTUITIVE
The Vedike Studio Mode lets creators add tracks from anywhere (on the device, iCloud). Once the tracks are added, users can move the instrument icon around the listener icon on the screen, and the sound moves exactly the way you see the instrument icon on the screen. If you move the drums away from the listener icon, you can hear the sound moving away from you and if you move it right, you can hear the sound coming from near your right ear and so on. Creators can use this mode to create the exact arrangement that they want for a song in minutes and in a visual way, without having to fiddle with pan controls etc. Long press on the track icon reveals more options like muting a track, deleting the track etc. The resulting output is a song with sound that is fully spatial in nature.
* INTELLIGENT
Vedike uses Machine Learning based Built-In Sound Classification to intelligently identify the instruments as the tracks are being imported. The tracks are given appropriate labels and icons based on the suggested confidence scores. Users can at anytime long press on an icon to edit the icon to a more suitable one if needed.
* IMMERSIVE
In the Discover mode, users can listen to songs in spatial audio that have been produced by our team in collaboration with various artists spanning different genres.
**With Apple AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro Max, Vedike supports Dynamic Head Tracking which means that if you move your head the sound is dynamically adjusted. This helps recreate a stage experience in which if a member of the audience moves their head around, the instruments on the stage and the sound originating from them do not move unlike a binaural experience where the sounds move with the movement of your head.
**On clicking the AR mode, users can hold up their device and place an anchor on a flat surface. 3D objects representing the instruments will be placed in the user's real world space - truly bringing a concert to the user's living room. While turning one's head will still dynamically adjust the sounds, if a user holds the device and walks towards an instrument - they will be able to hear the instrument getting louder creating a perfect 6DoF experience. This exactly recreates the effect of being in the middle of the stage when a live performance is going on.
Vedike Premium is an In-App Purchase that is offered on the app. Vedike Premium unlocks:
1. Sharing options for a .m4a file of the spatial audio song that you created using Vedike
2. Ability to record movements of instruments in the middle of the song (this is an upcoming feature that will be released in the next few updates)
**************Download Vedike today and jump on to the Spatial Audio bandwagon with minimal effort.******************
