EH: Augmented Pathways vs BloomOptix Usage & Stats

The Center for Experimental Humanities at Bard College developed this augmented reality application to highlight underrepresented histories and ecologies in the Hudson Valley. This app is meant to accompany a walk of the Montgomery Place property in upstate New York. Special thanks to Bob McGuire and Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for allowing us to use their cervidae recording.

BloomOptix® AI is a machine vision platform capable of detecting, classifying and providing cell counts for cyanobacteria across six genera (Microcystis, Dolichospermum, Aphanizomenon, Woronichinia, Limnoraphis, and Gloeotrichia). With 94% agreement with expert taxonomy, the BloomOptix® AI provides a reliable, unbiased means for anyone to monitor their lake, reservoir or river for cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (HABs) in the field on in the lab. To use the BloomOptix® AI, collect a sample of water and plate a few drops onto a microscope slide. Then, image the sample using a 2mm ioLight microscope. Simply upload photos of suspected cyanobacteria via the app and provide field observations, and any other data you collect. The BloomOptix® AI will return cyanobacterial colony IDs and cell counts within seconds of upload. There is also no more need for chain-of-custody forms nor field data sheets, as all data uploaded via the app is can be geolocated, as well as automatically stored and archived for later use. The BloomOptix® app is a companion app for use with an ioLight microscope (purchased separately) and a subscription to the BloomOptix® AI ecosystem.
