Polis Inventory vs Hoplite Challenge Usage & Stats
Polis-Inventory maps the ancient Greek settlements from the archaic and classical periods (c. 650-325 BC) as identified in the pioneering work published by the Copenhagen Polis Center named 'An Inventory of Archaic and Classical Poleis' by M.H. Hansen / T. Nielsen, Oxford 2005 (here referred to as the 'Inventory').
The digital dataset in Polis-Inventory, based on the Inventory, comes primarily from the website polis.stanford.edu, managed by the Stanford University Classics Department. The dataset is the result of a gradual, yet continuous digitization and advancement of the original printed material by subsequent classical scholars.
The Polis-Inventory app is informative and interactive, allowing for visualization, searching and filtering of the Poleis based on a set of physical and historical parameters. A Key to the parameters is provided. Further detail about, and accreditation of, these data can be found at polis.stanford.edu and the Inventory itself.
If you would like a copy of the data in this app, you can load it to your clipboard in a Geojson format from the About page.
No user data whatsoever is tracked or stored by the Polis-Inventory app.

The Hoplite Challenge is a verb conjugation game for Ancient Greek. It is inspired by the Hoplite Challenge Cup, a contest held each summer between the students and faculty of the Latin/Greek Institute's Basic Program in Greek. After only six weeks in the course, students are prepared to challenge the faculty to see who can most quickly and accurately produce Ancient Greek verb forms. The spirit and intensity of the Hoplite Challenge Cup could never be adequately recreated in app form, but it is hoped that you will find the app fun and challenging.
The app follows the units of the course's textbook, Hansen & Quinn's Greek: An Intensive Course. From the 114 verbs introduced in Hansen & Quinn there are over 15,800 possible verb forms, not including additional forms given in the appendix. The app presents users with one verb form and prompts them to change it to another in 30 seconds or less. Users should already have a good command of Ancient Greek verbs; the app is aimed at perfecting and reinforcing this knowledge.
