Sermo Avenue: Word Games vs EU Charter Usage & Stats
Sermo Avenue brings the wonders of spoken word to your child's fingertips, enhancing their learning journey in innovative ways. Designed to empower parents aiming to expand the vocabulary of their deaf or hard of hearing children, it uses unique haptic vibrations and interactive activities. Please note that these vibrations are supported only by iPhones 8 and later.
In a collaborative "sandbox" learning environment, both parent and child can explore the app together. Upon selecting a card featuring everyday objects, you're presented with a flashcard—the app's sandbox. From here, you have three engaging options. First, select the word to hear it aloud and FEEL its haptic vibration representation, mirroring the audio exactly.
For children, accessing new words can be challenging. While Sermo Avenue provides a helping hand, consistent interaction with a parent or loved one remains the most effective way to enhance your child's vocabulary. This is why we've crafted two activities that foster deeper engagement.
The first activity involves a simple syllable-based puzzle, segmented according to the number of syllables in the flashcard's word. As each puzzle piece is moved, it triggers the haptic and auditory representation of that syllable. This enriching puzzle can be replayed endlessly. The second activity encourages parent-child teamwork, as you both embark on a "hunt" to find and photograph other objects with characteristics akin to the original word.
Optimized for children aged 2 to 4 who are deaf or hard of hearing and equipped with hearing aids, the app’s vibrations complement the audible and visual elements. This fusion enhances understanding of articulations and rhythms, providing a holistic vocabulary-building experience.
