POTUS in Order vs Grid Multiplication Usage & Stats
Put each President of the United States (POTUS) in order!
POTUS in Order is an educational app designed to help students visualize and learn the presidents in sequence. Get to know the political party, years in office, terms served, and sequence number for each POTUS.
A page of cards for each of the first 8 presidents will be shown in random positions on your screen. Each card is color-coded to represent the political party and only their portrait and full name are shown. Drag the POTUS whose sequence number in the order of presidents matches the badge number in the center of the screen. For example, if the badge shows 1, drag George Washington’s card to it because George Washington is the 1st president. Complete all the presidents on the page to advance to the next set.
Study Mode
Don’t worry if you don’t know them yet or can’t get through all the presidents before 3 wrong attempts. You can switch Study mode on. The presidents will be lined up in order with facts (including their political party, years in office, terms served, and sequence number) showing. Adjust the slider to start on any page.
Premium
Additional Study mode features are only available with POTUS in Order Premium. View Vice President, First Lady, date of birth, age at inauguration, other political offices held, and much, much more! There is even space for you to add your own custom notes.
Context-sensitive buttons and links also allow you to view lists of POTUSes that share a common trait. For example, suppose you are viewing Theodore Roosevelt. When you tap the “42” link, you will list all the POTUSes that were inaugurated in their 40s. Or tap the “Governor” link to view all POTUSes who served as Governor. Press the "Republican" button to list all the Republican POTUSes. Access premium features in Study mode, by tapping a POTUS. If you have not yet purchased the premium features, view a sample by tapping George Washington, otherwise you will be asked if you want to purchase POTUS in Order Premium.

This math app can be used to teach and study the grid multiplication method. The app is easy to use and it has an intuitive interactive interface with customizable colors and other settings.
The grid multiplication app is the latest app in the set of 17 math apps that was reviewed by Wired.com: “A Set of Excellent iPhone Math Apps for the Older Child”.
Endorsed by teachers
R. Zeni, Ecole Sandy Hill Elementary, Abbotsford, BC, Canada:
"The math apps by Esa Helttula allow students to practice and reinforce the specific computation strategies taught in class, with as much or as little scaffolding as necessary.
They also provide individualized feedback to each student, with an immediacy that is not always possible through pencil and paper practice. Being able to adjust the level of difficulty to suit their needs is also very motivating for the students. I am so glad to have come across this great educational tool!"
Z. R. Prowell, Highlands Elementary, Edina, Minnesota, USA:
"In my class I have used them to assist students with seeing the steps to properly completing multiplication operations such as partial products and partial quotients. There are students who see my examples who still need some guidance, and after using your app have said, "Now I get it." The feature of selecting possible solutions in each step helps some of my students who are still building their multiplication facts. They can gain experience in using these new concepts but not be left behind.
Helping student understanding are the animations. They are smooth and really illustrate a step-by-step understanding of how to complete new styles of multiplication.”
The Grid Multiplication Method
The grid multiplication method is a two-step process. In the example 39 x 24 the numbers are first broken up into 30 + 9 and 20 + 4, and written on a grid. Multiplying the row and column headers then solves each cell of the grid. Eventually the partial products 600, 180, 120, and 36 are added together.
The App is Easy to Use
The numbers are aligned automatically so that the user can concentrate on solving the operations for each column.
After you solve the operation for each partial product the correct answer will fly to the right place. If you press the wrong button the answer will appear above the keyboard but it will not move.
Settings:
- Each number can have from 2 to 3 digits.
- Random and custom problems.
- The current operation can be hidden.
- The operands of the current operation can be highlighted.
-Colors of the interface can be changed.
- The speed of the animations can be set.
