Teachley Fractions Boost vs Story Problems Usage & Stats
Teachley Fractions Boost is an exciting 3D racing game that helps children in 3rd-5th grades gain conceptual understanding of fractions while learning how to represent them on a number line. Children race through a futuristic world, driving through number line checkpoints and fraction tunnels.
This engaging game, designed by teachers, features built-in lessons and powerful scaffolds to deepen children's knowledge of fractions. Teachley Fractions Boost covers all of 3rd grade fractions standards, including comparison and equivalence of fractions.
This app will transform the way children learn and understand fractions!
"Teaching number sense is really difficult for elementary school students. Teaching fraction number sense can be even harder. My students frequently would "sneak" playing Fractions Boost, and I would pretend not to notice that they were playing extra rounds." - Nick, 4th grade teacher, VT.
"Fractions are often such a difficult concept to teach. I'm so thankful that Teachley has made a game that is equally engaging as it is entertaining!” - Heather Holinger, 4th grade teacher, ME.
Fractions Boost is aligned with 3rd grade fractions standards, including:
3.NF.A.1, 3.NF.A.2a, 3.NF.A.3b, 3.NF.A.3c, and
3.NF.A.2b Represent a fraction a/b on a number line diagram by marking off a lengths 1/b from 0. Recognize that the resulting interval has size a/b and that its endpoint locates the number a/b on the number line.
3.NF.A.3d Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size.
3.NF.A.3a Understand two fractions as equivalent (equal) if they are the same size, or the same point on a number line.
TEKS - 2.3.A-B, 3.3.A-C, 3.3F-H

Story Problems uniqueness comes from the ability to use fun animals as manipulatives to aide in solving simple story problems. Students can choose to solve addition or subtraction story problems. For an extra challenge, mixed story problems are included. Choosing this game mode will allow students to use higher level thinking skills to first determine whether the problem calls for them to add or subtract.
They can then use the manipulatives to help solve the story problem. To allow for differentiation, a range of numbers can be selected that will then be used within the story problems. Story Problems will read the problem to the student. This helps those younger students that may need a little extra support with this skill.
Students may enter their name into the game and the game keeps track of their results. Results are recorded by date, number correct and game type. This is a great way for parents and teachers to check for understanding and then reteach where necessary.
Story Problems targets children in Kindergarten to Second Grade. It uses the common core standards in Operations and Algebraic Thinking for each of these grades. K.OA.A.2, 1.OA.A.2, 2.OA.A.1
