Where it works: Worldwide
What it does: Guides users through the process of making their library more sustainable and thereby more resilient through practices that are environmentally sound, economically feasible, and socially equitable.
Why we need it: The app is a tool for directors, trustees and staff at all levels, guiding users in establishing policies and practices, developing partnerships, and identifying resources to create a more sustainable library that will be both relevant and financially stable into the future.
Functionality: The app provides checklists, a notes feature, a news feed and shareability of content.
What is it: An application for smartphones that enables users to interact with the Sustainability Initiative’s Road Map publication.
How do you use it: Install the App and follow the map, working step-by-step toward the dual goals of a sustainable library and a sustainable community. There are many possible routes, and the roadmap will guide you. Feel free to explore, considering which path bests suits your library and community. Follow the links in depth, read the stories of sustainability accomplishments of other libraries. Examine your policies and those of others and then draft or update what you have in place. Incorporate sustainability into your budget and strategic planning, and set a long-term goal that your library will become a model of sustainability worthy of emulation and recognition in your community .
What benefits do you get: The roadmap will break down the tasks of becoming more sustainable into easy to paths. It will map out the “neighborhoods” of information. At each turn you will learn and gather information, compiling resources and ticking off accomplishments as you go. One step at a time, at your own pace, you will stay on the path to success. A sustainable library is fiscally responsible and stable; able to withstand the next budget cut, the next crisis, or the next technology revolution. The sustainable library has an empowered community behind it.
Why should this mobile app be important to you: You want to be ready for what comes next, we all do. Your days are full, with competing demands for your time. You have a job to do and creating a more sustainable library is just a small piece of it. You can’t fit another project into your day. But you can take a few minutes a day, while waiting for a bus or for your coffee to brew, to consider new questions and to take one more step to take towards making your library sustainable. It doesn’t matter if you are the custodian, the director, or a trustee, or whether you have years of experience or are just starting out. You will learn something and you will have something to share with others.

Are you interested in receiving a personalized training pathway after initially testing your knowledge and awareness of internationalization processes? The Environmental app for startups will elaborate a personalised strategy to be able to address weak points and empower to take an active approach towards internationalization processes. The app aims to ensure that startups, young entrepreneurs and VET (vocational education and training) providers take advantage of digital technologies to develop their skills and competences in the field of environmental change, and thus be prepared to influence sustainable processes. Training on environmental issues in the form of a mobile app will attract younger generations, startups and entrepreneurs especially in view of the fast-paced life.
The app involves knowledge across 6 thematic parts transferred from the environmental syllabus for VET providers to MOBILE DEVICES in the form of practical activities.
Topics concerned: ways of transition to natural energy and combating climate change, towards biodiversity and ecological transformation of companies, plastic waste management in your SME, redesigning products and services to minimise the use of materials, circular businesses models, and life cycle thinking.
The app is built of 3 parts: a self-assessment panel concerning environmental change processes in SMEs, a customised training pathway and a strategy maker panel. Based on the results of the self-assessment, the training pathway will be focused on the basic, intermediate or advanced level.
The self-assessment tool compromises of set of questions concerning the environmental change processes. There is pool of 60 questions, but the user does not see all of them at once, and receives different ones at each attempt. The system randomly chooses 4 questions from each thematic part, so 24 questions are viewed at a single attempt.
While the training pathway, based on scenarios, has three levels of advancement. There are 90 scenarios across all the levels. It is possible to investigate all of them, but based on the results of the self-assessment the system will recommend those to follow. The user will then learn and practice the different themes of circular economy covered in the project. The scenarios are a combination of text and graphics, and also end with a situational question, which is followed by detailed feedback. At any time, the learner can go back to the scenarios, and study the material at their own pace or time.
Finally, the strategy maker planner includes a calendar to schedule the implementation of an individual circular and sustainable strategy. This is a workspace for users to insert notes and plans for implementing sustainable/circular solutions. The information inserted is stored on the individual device of the user, which means that the panel is unique and not transferable, tailored to the needs of the user/business.
Environmental app for startups is the second result of the Environmental change project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
