KC Mesh formula App relates to Civil Engineering and Instrumentation. More specifically by installing this App, your iPhone/iPad device will act like a portable and mini electronic device to calculate steel rod length in civil construction. This App is based on the KC's formula invented by Professor Karam Chand Gupta of Chandigarh University, India.
This is the first time that such an App has been launched that can calculate the quantity of steel bar placed in mesh form in circular, slab or dome.
Abstract - When the steel reinforcement is placed in mesh form in a circular concrete slab at the base or spherical dome at the top in overhead service reservoir or any other structure, it is difficult to estimate/measure the total quantity of steel that would be needed or have been placed. For the purpose of calculating the total length of the steel bars, at present, the practice is – the length of each bar is measured and then added up. This is a tiresome and time-consuming process. I have derived a mathematical formula with the help of which we can calculate in one line the total quantity of steel that will be needed in a circular slab or spherical dome. This will not only make the process easy and time saving but also avoids error in making entries and calculations.
About KC:-
Karam Chand Gupta (born 5 August 1952) is working as an Assistant Professor at Chandigarh University, Gharuan (Mohali), India. He came into the limelight after inventing civil formulas recognized worldwide. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil from Guru Nanakdev Engineering College, Ludhiana in 1975. He worked for 33 years in the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Chandigarh, Punjab, India and retired from there as a Superintending Engineer. After retirement, he started working as an Assistant Professor / Academic Coordinator at Chandigarh University.
After a few months keeping in view his interest, the university deputed him to look after the research work. He derived a formula named KC’s Mesh Formula that has been accepted worldwide and he attended many conferences thereafter in India and abroad. With the help of this formula, one can calculate the quantity of steel bars placed in the circular concrete slab, in the spherical dome or in any other irregular shaped geometry within seconds. On September 3, 2015, he went to Bangkok to present his formula at an International Conference organized by the International Institute of Engineers and Researchers. In this conference, he acted as Technical Session Chair also.
A patent on this formula has also been filed on 30.03.2016.
He also invented the Ellipse Formula to draw Ellipse on the ground for elliptical structures for which the patent has also been filed.
He is a life member of the Institute of Engineers, Kolkata, India (M035337), the Indian Water Works Association, Mumbai, India (LM 02253) and The Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi (LM 96416).
