Created with a federally funded Georgia Improving Teacher Quality grant, the game builds on a DVD and website (hearatale.com) which raised mean vocabulary scores for 459 at-risk Title I kindergarten students from the 27th to the 47th percentile. Three years later on their statewide 3rd grade reading exams these children scored in the highest range 35% more often than their peers, and in the lowest range less than half as often (7.6% vs. 16.13%).
