Searching for Answers: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump

9Min.October 30, 2024

When internet users enter search queries as questions, here are the top 100 questions about each candidate they have been asking over the last 28 days

Voting in the race for US President is under way, with the last ballots to be cast on Tuesday, November 5, but many voters still have lingering questions about the candidates. They include a lot of biographical basics like “how old is Kamala Harris?” and “how tall is Donald Trump?” (for some reason, people’s top questions about each candidate), as well as more substantial ones about the positions of the candidates.

Here, we present the top 100 questions searchers are asking about each of the candidates.

Using the Similarweb Keyword Generator (a tool usually employed to find popular keywords as part of search engine optimization work), we took the top 100 from 2,599 question queries about Kamala Harris and 2,130 about Donald Trump. Maybe because Trump is more of a known quantity, Harris attracted more than twice the volume of question queries, based on the top 100. The questions are included as verbatim samples, including typos and without capitalization.

Our summary of the queries is subjective, so feel free to jump ahead to read for yourself the 100 questions about Kamala Harris or 100 questions about Donald Trump.

Key takeaways

  • The list is not current enough to reflect controversies that erupted within the last few days, but it does include “which mcdonald’s did trump work at” (#9 on the list for Trump) and “when did kamala harris work at mcdonald’s” (#48 for Harris). Eleven of the top questions about Trump were related to McDonald’s, compared with two for Harris.
  • Questions about Trump controversies included “why is donald trump against haitians” (#12), “what criminal act has donald trump been convicted of” (#39), “does donald trump have anything to do with project 2025” (#57), “what has donald trump been found guilty of” (#73), “what immigrants is donald trump trying to kick out” (#79), and “does donald trump like hitler” (#94).
  • Questions about Harris were more likely to be factual, for example about her campaign schedule, but included some challenging ones like “how many times has kamala harris been to the border” (#84) and “does kamala harris support sex changes for inmates” (#97).

The full listing below includes the domain receiving the most search traffic (where there was a clear winner), usually a news or campaign website.
