Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA) was founded in 2003 by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al- Hussein to represent the first initiative of its kind in the Arab World that seeks to eradicate hunger. TUA is also considered the first non-governmental organization to provide sustainable food support through distributing food parcels and serving hot meals in addition to providing humanitarian food aid to Jordan’s underprivileged. Originally conceptualized by Her Late Majesty Queen Alia more than 39 years ago, TUA is inspired by the Islamic concept of providing food for the underprivileged and assuming social responsibility for them. Through this project, Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al- Hussein continues her mother’s short lived, yet rich legacy.
The headquarters of TUA is located in the heart of Jordan’s capital, Amman. The consultation regarding its establishment began in 2002, while construction commenced in 2003 and was completed the following year.
TUA started its operations with a clear vision and a dedicated goal, mainly eradicating hunger through its various food aid programs and meeting nutritional needs of households living in extreme poverty.
Immediately after operations began TUA started social research activities in 2005, and subsequently a year later inaugurated a daily feeding program that ensures the provision of up to 350 daily meals to wayfarers at its premises; and at the same time, it embarked on delivering monthly food parcels to those families living in extreme poverty. Each parcel contains 22 food items that include all the basic nutritional elements that fulfil the needs of a family for an entire month.
At the same time, TUA looked into the possibility of benefiting from Adahi meat offerings and adding them to its food basket with the aim of maximizing benefit from the Adahi meat through its distribution along with the food parcels to endorsed families throughout the year.
As a result, the Adahi program was launched in 2005 in agreement and collaboration with the Jordanian General Iftaa’ Department, this program is the first of its kind in Jordan.
In 2007, and in light of the success of its sustainable food program, Tkiyet Um Ali launched a rehabilitation and employment program that aims to train and support members of endorsed families, through developing their skills and enabling them to acquire practical work experiences. In 2008 Tkiyet Um Ali inaugurated “Takaya Al-Khair markets”, the first market of its kind in the Middle East that provides free food commodities to endorsed

families through the use of electronic magnetic cards, thus helping to preserve their dignity and meet a very basic humanitarian need.
Towards its aim of eradicating hunger in Jordan, TUA launched its Eradicating Extreme Poverty Project in 2013 in a bid to reach out to 20,000 households throughout the Kingdom who were living in extreme poverty. Since the launch of the project, 54,102 households were assessed, and by the end of 2015, 18,300 households were endorsed by Tkiyet Um Ali based on its agreed eligibility criteria.
During the past years, Tkiyet Um Ali succeeded in positioning itself as a leading organization that works in eradicating hunger in Jordan, having delivered to this day over 220 thousand food parcels and served over one million and nine hundred and fifty thousand hot meals to the underprivileged, in addition to delivering 150 thousand meat offering, Udhiyah.
