Her father taught physics and mathematics. Her mother was the head mistress of an academy for girls. Eventually Marie left her home in Poland and traveled west to Paris, France. At the age of 23 she became known as Marie. Her life in France was new and different. It was exciting for a young woman. Marie enrolled at the Sorbonne, one of the great universities.
