Summary:
• Interactive and bilingual ASL/English storybook app designed for visual learners, especially deaf children between the ages of 3 and 7, and their families.
• Based on a classic Russian story, the app covers storytelling in sign language and print.
Synopsis:
The classic Russian folk tale “Teremok” takes on new life as a tool for bilingual education of deaf and hard of hearing children! Through this story of a group of animals who find and make a home out of a cottage in the woods, the young reader can achieve early exposure to bilingualism and improve their language and literacy development.

The Hawes and Mills’ Adventure! is a bilingual ASL/English storybook app created by a team of staff members and alumni from Wisconsin School for the Deaf. This app was made possible by the support of Wisconsin School for the Deaf, Parent & Staff Association and the generous support of numerous friends. The project was done through Gallaudet University’s Motion Light Lab training program on bilingual storybook apps. This program is funded by Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.
The ‘Hawes and Mills’ Adventure!’ story follows a special friendship between a chipmunk and a thirteen-lined ground squirrel. Hawes and Mills take us through their adventure to find delicious sunflower seeds. The story includes some historical connections to the Wisconsin School for the Deaf. Viewers will enjoy Davianna Daniels’ beautiful artwork from Hawes and Mills’ perspectives while imaginations will come alive viewing Tom Harbison’s captivating ASL taking through Hawes and Mills’ experiences. This storybook app is a great way to make connections to character development, social emotional learning, forest animals, life cycle, seasons and sunflower seeds.
App features the following:
-200+ vocabulary words signed and fingerspelling in LEARN mode
-Page by page with English text and ASL videos in READ mode
-Highlighted words to click and view ASL signs
-Full ASL storytelling with animations in WATCH mode
