Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1874, the Capitol Grounds are home to approximately 200 notable trees, unique architectural features, sculpture, fountains and a wide variety of plantings. The Capitol Grounds have also been the stage for hundreds of events of national significance, including inaugurations, commemorations, protests, concerts and more. "The Thomas Jefferson Foundation’s free app, Monticello Scavenger Hunt, encourages visitors to explore spaces at Monticello once inhabited by Thomas Jefferson, his family, and enslaved people. All scavenger hunt challenges are located outside the Monticello home and can be accomplished in any order. Allow approximately one hour to complete the scavenger hunt. Users explore Jefferson’s 1,000-foot-long vegetable garden, the cellar level of Jefferson’s home, and Mulberry Row, where enslaved people worked and lived.
