It's measured in kilograms per second in SI units and in slug per second or pound per second in US customary units. The common symbol is ṁ (pronounced "m-dot"), although sometimes μ (Greek lowercase mu) is employed.
Occasionally, mass flow rate is referred to as mass flux or mass current, as seen, for instance, in Fluid Mechanics, Schaum's, and other references. In this article, we adopt the more intuitive definition.
