The Liberty Trail SC app—made in a partnership between the American Battlefield Trust and the South Carolina Battleground Trust—connects battlefields across South Carolina and tells the captivating and inspiring stories of this transformative chapter of American history.
Each stop along the driving tour features unique on-site interpretation that connects visitors to the extraordinary events that came to pass nearly 250 years ago. The Liberty Trail SC honors the patriots that decided the Revolution’s outcomes in the Carolinas.

The City of Winchester was the most contested city of the Civil War. Between March of 1862 and September of 1864, the town changed hands dozens of times and saw six battles. By 1865, Winchester had been devastated by constant combat, marching armies, requisitioning and pillaging, caring for the wounded, and destruction.
