It discusses the discovery of polonium and radium, which earned Marie Curie two Nobel Prizes. Marie Curie had a humble early life. She was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1867. At the time Poland was controlled by the Russian Empire. Marie was the 5th child and at an early age she showed signs of her intelligence and determinination. Both of her parents were educators. Her father taught physics and mathematics. Her mother was the head mistress of an academy for girls. Eventually Marie left her home in Poland and traveled west to Paris, France. At the age of 23 she became known as Marie. Her life in France was new and different. It was exciting for a young woman. Marie enrolled at the Sorbonne, one of the great universities. She embarked on her quest to become a research scientist. She had great intelligence, passion and motivation. Students will enjoy using this graphically illustrated, interactive learning tool.
