Fascinating staged scenes offer a realistic impression of prehistoric life, with wild cave lions and impressive mammoths, Neanderthals deep in thought, Ice Age hunting grounds, shamans, burial chambers, princely graves with golden grave goods and, of course, the Nebra Sky Disc (1600 B.C.), the world’s oldest known concrete depiction of the heavens. Apart from showing its permanent collection, the State Museum of Prehistory regularly presents special temporary exhibitions.
