ODYSSEY Functional Groups vs. EarthPositions Utilizzo e statistiche
Gaining familiarity with the main functional groups is at the heart of learning organic chemistry. ODYSSEY Functional Groups includes molecular models for prototypical realizations of twelve functional groups (alcohol, ether, aldehyde, ketone, amine, amide, carboxylic acid, ester, acyl halide, alkyl halide, plus alkene and alkyne). A second set of models encompasses forty-five examples of important organic compounds that contain one or more of these functional groups.
All models of individual molecules are available with an isosurface representation of the electron cloud. Calculated from industry standard quantum chemical methods, the isosurfaces can be color-coded as “electrostatic potential maps” in order to indicate polarity—this visualization style has become ubiquitous in chemistry textbooks. Surfaces can be shown in a transparent, mesh, or solid style.
More than thirty compounds are represented by both a model of the individual molecule as well as a model of the substance in its standard state (solid, liquid, or gas). Many of the standard state models can be animated in room temperature molecular dynamics simulations. Potential hydrogen bond acceptors can be highlighted by showing lone pair positions, and—where applicable—hydrogen bonding can be explicitly visualized.
A glossary, comments section, and set of multiple choice questions (with randomized options) are also included.

This app shows three animated functions about Earth positions:
1. Day and Night
This is the screen when you start the app. It shows a moving shape of the night zone over the Earth map, the time at different Earth positions and the city lights of the capitals or some large cities at night.
By default this animation shows the night shape for the current day and moves on from there. However, you can enter any date allowing you to observe how this night shape changes during the year and especially during the different seasons. E.g. on 21 of March, the night is exactly 12 hours long anywhere on Earth.
2. Earth and Sun
This animation shows how the earth orbits around the sun. During its orbit, it shows the date and shows a still picture at the change of the seasons. You can also enter a date to show it as a red dot marker on the orbit. By default, the animation shows the current date.
3. Where on Earth
A very attractive geographical game, where you have to guess a location on a 3D-Earth, which rotates and tumbles to display that location in the middle. This game contains 4 levels (beginner, skillful, advanced and expert), 5 continents (Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania) and 4 groups (capitals, large cities, towns and airports). Depending on the game level, you can select your answer from a choice between 3, 6, 9 or 12 locations. You can get additional help by requesting up to three hints. However, a hint lowers the points you can earn when answering the question.
In addition to these main functions, a preferences section allows you to select a different language. You can choose between English, French, German, Spanish and Dutch. The preferences also show and keep track of the highest scores for the "Where On Earth" game.
And finally, the explain section shortly explains the functions of this app.
Features
- Visualizes the night moving over the Earth over a period of 24 hours and repeats it for every day of the year.
- Visualizes the Earth orbiting around the sun and shows the seasons.
- Contains an addictive geographical game to guess capitals and cities, given a position on Earth.
- An explain tab gives you a short explanation of this app.
- Adapts its user interface when you rotate your tablet or phone. Zoom (two fingers gesture) and pan (one finger gesture) to ease accessing the data entry controls or to enlarge a part of the screen.
- Select one of the possible languages: English (Default), French, German, Spanish and Dutch.
