SmartHanzi for Kanjis, a fully free, no ads app, helps reading and memorizing Japanese Kanjis even for students with a limited level in Japanese.
TEXT READER
A full text can be copied with immediate access to unknown words. The app offers different views for various usages and user levels.
Meeting words and characters in context, together with related ones, strongly helps memorizing.
AUDIO
The app can read aloud texts or individual words.
CHARACTERS
Stroke order is shown for 3500 characters.
At first sight, kanjis may look awfully strange and out of reach. By getting easily the basic components of kanjis met in everyday texts, and their explanations, students at any level will much more easily remember characters and get familiar with new ones.
SmartHanzi for Kanjis shows etymology of kanjis from two sources:
- The Etymological Dictionary of Han/Chinese Characters by Lawrence J. Howell and Hikaru Morimoto.
- Dr. Wieger's CHINESE CHARACTERS: based on the Chinese Shuowen jiezi, with etymological lessons and phonetic series. The application includes the full text (French) of the first lessons and will be completed progressively.
DICTIONARIES
- JMDict: Japanese dictionaries for English, French and German.
- DDB (Digital Dictionary of Buddhism, short definitions).
- CJKV-E (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese - English Dictionary of Confucian, Daoist and Intellectual Historical Terms, short definitions only).
ADVANCED FEATURES
SmartHanzi for Kanjis recognizes character variants. For instance, searching/parsing 真 will show both 真 and 眞, according to what is present in selected dictionaries. Or it will recognize equally well 為/爲 or 眾/衆.
