This is done using cryptographic methods in combination with a decentralized network using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), often referred to as blockchain technology. With SSI technology, your privacy is a top priority. No personal data is ever written to the ledger. Each claim remains in your wallet unless you reveal a subset of them to a specific verifier.
