Meri Sangini is a mobile application developed by Nepal CRS Company with support from USAID through Shops Plus to provide detailed information on the temporary methods of contraception. Although the information provided is suitable for any person of reproductive age, the information provided will be very useful for the adolescent and newly married couples who seek detailed information on the temporary methods including the common side effects of each method. We advise consultation with the qualified service provider for the selection of the method most suitable for each individual. An extensive FAQ section addresses general questions about temporary contraceptive and common concerns specific to each contraceptive method. Additionally, the application also provides platform for the existing and potential users to seek further information on the use of contraceptives. The app also provides the GPS location, displayed on a map, of the private pharmacies, clinics and social franchising network outlets in Nepal. The users can quickly find out the location of the outlets nearest to them where the products and services are available. After downloading and installing, certain features of the app also operates offline. The information provided in this app is in both English and Nepali language.

The target audience for this project can be classified as beneficiaries and health care personnel. The health care personnel include medical officers, ANMs, and ASHAs. This project aims to bring in systematic and sustainable improvement in outcomes from the service delivery perspective, which result in better adherence to GDM care by the beneficiary. The adherence of beneficiaries to GDM care pathways can be achieved through: • Improving awareness of the importance of screening and management of GDM • Facilitating uninterrupted patient monitoring • Strengthening feedback loop • Targeted outreach for testing of outliers • Targeted outreach to GDM positives The improved compliance of health care personnel with the best practices can be achieved through: • Point of care alerts on best practices for GDM screening and Management • Expanded counseling abilities for outliers • Improved ability to plan ANC sessions • Improved ability to batch and match GDM positives • Instant access to target patient group lists The proposed solution should have the following components to achieve the above outcomes. From the beneficiary perspective: • Mobile first ‘Facilitated Patient Monitoring’ (FPM) system for both smartphone and feature phone users • Help desk integration for the patient feedback mechanism From the healthcare personnel perspective: • Integrated case-based e-learning modules on GDM • Integrated patient counseling through the FPM system • e-learning modules ANM session resource planning • Dashboards to guide mentoring and intervention activities The current scope is to develop all these components with seamless integration and train the staff on the day-to-day usage of this system.
