Call it Out vs Garma Festival Utilisation & Stats

Call It Out is a tool that First Nations Peoples, bystanders and allies can use to report any form of racism and discrimination towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By calling out racism, you are contributing to a collective story and helping to expose and resist racism in Australia. Anything that you feel is unfair or unjust towards First Nations People based on race can be reported (e.g. interpersonal or structural bias, prejudice, or discrimination). Reports can relate to current, historical or ongoing racism that occurs anywhere – at an organisation or while interacting with a government service, in public or private, in the media or online. Reports are collected, held securely and analysed by Jumbunna Research at UTS to inform annual reports to help raise awareness and drive systematic change. The main feature of the app is a series of questions used to make a report to the register. After completing the initial required questions, you can provide as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with, and your report is saved as you go. The app includes the option to sign up or use as a guest. If you sign up, your key details are saved to make reporting faster and easier. When signed in, you can also access your finished reports and your most recent unfinished report. We collect some personal details to validate your report, but your personal details are held securely, kept confidential and never shared with anyone. The app includes our Privacy Policy which details how we protect and use your information. There are links to support services and the Call It Out website where you can access additional resources including published reports and alternate ways to make a report to the register. Call It Out was created to build an evidence base to combat the ongoing denial of the existence and negative impacts of racism on all aspects of First Nations people’s lives, including social and emotional wellbeing. Our purpose is to collect information on the nature, extent and impact of racism on individuals and communities, as well as to inform strategies on how to respond to and address racism. This information will inform evidenced-based research to inform anti-racism action and policy development, support the response of First Nations communities, organisations and leaders, and educate the wider community. Call It Out is led by the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research, in collaboration with the National Justice Project.
