Cross the multi-layered moat and enter a Yayoi era settlement that thrived for 700 years from as early as the the third century BCE. The site's distinctive large-scale buildings and stone vessels imported from throughout ancient Japan attest to the high level of technology and political authority enjoyed by its inhabitants. It is theorized that this village may even have been the main seat of power in the Kinki region during this era.
