CardSpeak is a digital alternative to physical cards or other similar communication tools. Use visual cards to speak and show the events of the day. CardSpeak is meant for users that benefit from visual support in their communication. Targeted users include for example people with an autism spectrum disorder or other special needs. The app has three different functionalities: 1. Communicate using cards. All cards you add to CardSpeak support voice. By selecting a card and tapping it, the app will automatically say the associated voice-over without you having to record it. Thus, by tapping on a glass of water, the user can indicate they want water. This is also useful for allowing users to select from a number of alternatives (e.g., what do you want to eat?) 2. Create sentences. CardSpeak uses a a card-based sentence strip to allow the user to construct sentences from cards. The user can then have CardSpeak read out the sentence. By handing over the device to the recipient, the user can indicate they are communicating with the recipient. 3. Keep track of events in the today screen. The today calendar allows cards to be used to show what is happening during the day. This is useful to give the user structure and comfort that they know what is happening and in what order. When an event is complete, it can be simply swiped away. The user interface is in English, but the voice functionality supports three languages: English, Finnish and Swedish.
