Announcing a Major Upgrade to Similarweb’s Mobile Web Algorithm

2Min.August 22, 2017

As online consumption continues to shift from desktop to mobile, the need for cross-device digital intelligence is more critical than ever. Similarweb stays ahead by providing granular insights into web traffic, engagement, keywords, referrals, and more. Similarweb’s insights enable businesses to attract, convert, and retain high-intent consumers browsing from their smartphones and tablets.

Similarweb’s powerful desktop and mobile insights are derived from hundreds of data sources which are categorized into four primary groups:

  • Global Panel Data (from hundreds of millions of devices)
  • Global ISP Data
  • Public Data Sources
  • Direct Measurement Data

Similarweb algorithms transform the data from all these sources into intelligence estimations for every website in the world.

Mobile Web Algorithm Upgrade

Now, after months of development, we are excited to announce the launch of a new and improved Similarweb mobile web algorithm.

The biggest change comes in the way we leverage the Direct Measurement Data. Until now, one of the challenges has been the lack of standardization around how websites set up their analytics. For example, some websites place tracking pixels in the wrong place on their site, and in other cases, site owners define app traffic as part of mobile web traffic. Our newly updated algorithm resolves these issues to ensure we tap into a far greater volume of the Direct Measurement data sets we are granted access to, thereby increasing the effectiveness and reliability of Similarweb insights across all available markets.

This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the most actionable and accurate insights across desktop and mobile.
